ezSQL development moving to true open source model

It has become apparent to me that since ezSQL is so popular now, it should probably be a fully fledged open source project -- with a public source control repositry, bug log etc.

I'm going to extend this ethos to all ezSQL related products such as EZ Results and ezSearch.

I'm just in the process of setting the ezSQL project up and will let you know when it exists.

If you are interested in being on the board of developers/documenters for this project please reply to this post.

FYI - I can't be 'exactly' sure how many users are using ezSQL but here are some interesting figures about it..

  • Word Press blogging system uses ezSQL. It's an open source system in its own right that is freely distributed. It's main site wordpress.com has 60,000+ users registered.
  • A google search on ezsql returns in excess of 50,000 results
  • When I used to log downloads (up until about 9 months ago) there were in excess of 50,000.
  • There are a number of resources around the internet who distribute ezSQL from their own server.

I'm thinking that there are probably something like 80,000ish installations of ezSQL.

Then if you consider the number of 'users' using products driven by ezSQL... then I guess you could multiply the above by a factor of, hmm, maybe... 5?

Anyway, back to point at hand. If you'd like to be part of the full open source drive then sign up below.

Cheers,
JV :)

p.s. Please note. The donate link will be removed from the fully open source version.

p.p.s If anyone has any other ideas on how best to move the project forward so that ezSQL can get as much exposure as possible then feel free to chip in.

p.p.p.s This initiative was inspired by Zach Shelton's post about his DB utility.
